I was a change of life baby for my mother. She gave birth to me when she was forty years old. She was a stay- at- home mom.

She sewed costumes for my school plays. I still have a blue dress with paper snowflakes and oriental shoes that the toes curl upward. She made holiday shaped sugar cookies decorated with colorful icing for school parties.

She made delicious chocolate, coconut, and lemon pies with meringue topping. She loved to cook and made the best casseroles.

She loved attending church on Sunday mornings until she could no longer drive. She then listened to services on the radio.

Her favorite flowers were roses. There were two light pink baby rose bushes in her flower beds. She loved to shop. She would take her grandkids shopping at the mall in Ardmore.

She tirelessly took care of my dad during the time he had cancer. Then she helped take care of her grandson as well before he too lost his battle to cancer. These really took a toll on her.

She loved her family and always had a kind word. She looked out for the neighborhood. Her neighbors looked out for her as well. Some still live there now.

She got tickled easily while trying to tell a funny story. We would have to take a time out, while she laughed and laughed! We all got a kick out of trying to say “aluminum”. She never got it right no matter how many times she tried.

Now, she lives in heaven with the Lord free of pain and with all her family that passed before her. I used to hear the sound of her walker dragging across the floor in her house of silence after she was gone. I miss her every day and wish I could sit and talk with her again. Love you Mother!
