National Haiku Writing Month

February, as the shortest month of the year, has been chosen to honor the shortest poem of the craft: the haiku. The official title of the movement is NaHaiWriMo, and you can learn more from their official website at www.nahaiwrimo.com.

NaHaiWriMo is simply a challenge to write one haiku each day during the month of February.

The PWE Community welcomes participation in this challenge and hosts a forum thread specifically for it at https://poetwriterextraordinaire.com/forums/forum/pwe-community-forum/nahaiwrimo/.

At the official website, www.nahaiwrimo.com, you will find history about the haiku, guidelines for writing haiku, and even a daily writing prompt for haiku, along with fun facts.

So grab a pencil and a notepad and join us in this challenge!

We can’t wait to see what you write.

Some things you can do with your haiku after you write them:

  • Go to the forum above and post it in a new topic.
  • Share it on your favorite social media sites.
  • Enter it into various contests.
  • Use it to make a greeting card.
  • Send it to a friend.
  • Post it on a fun graphic.
  • Create your own mini poetry book.

One of the prompters on www.nahaiwrimo.com has made herself a handmade haiku book every year for over a decade. You can read more about that here: https://www.nahaiwrimo.com/how-to-participate/handmade-nahaiwrimo-books.

Most of all: have fun with it!
